Life Transitions

Life Transitions

Adjusting to change can be difficult and can cause increased stress. Some life changes can be positive such as marriages, births or moves, but these same changes can also bring along stressors. For example, when you move there are the positives of a new start, making new friends and being somewhere new. The stressors that come from moving may include leaving your support system behind, not knowing where anything is and being lonely.

Common symptoms of stress related to adjusting to life transitions:

  • Feeling angry, anxious, sad, numb, or confused
  • Experiencing doubt
  • Feeling a loss of self-esteem
  • Problems with sleep
  • Problems with appetite
  • Avoiding things

Change can be challenging, but it does not have to be bad or impact you forever. In therapy, we work together to learn how to see the new future, learn coping skills, and manage stress in order to help you through a difficult life transition.
